Callum Miller has made a career out of refusing to let go. Nicknamed “Chips,” the Warwick, Queensland, Australia, native has a reputation for hanging on until he is upside down, backwards and just about inside out. The nickname dates back to when he first came to the United States alongside a red-headed Australian known as “Salsa.” Together, naturally, they became “Chips and Salsa.” The name stuck, and these days “Chips” is printed across the back of Miller’s chaps with kangaroos running down the legs.

Miller’s path to bull riding started early. He first climbed on sheep before getting on his first bull at 7 years old. His father never rode bulls, making Miller a first-generation bull rider, but he grew up around the sport through his best friend’s parents, who were stock contractors. Miller still looks up to his father more than anyone, even if the bull riding part of the family story started with him.

In 2014, Miller came to North America on a rodeo scholarship to Oklahoma Panhandle State University. He competed while earning his degree in industrial technology, and graduating from college remains the accomplishment he says he is proudest of outside of the arena. From there, he gradually built his name through PBR Canada, highlighted by a 5-for-6 performance at the 2020 Canadian National Finals that helped him finish No. 4 in the country.

After multiple strong seasons north of the border, Miller broke through in the United States in 2024, winning the Velocity Tour event in Reno before qualifying for his first PBR World Finals. Later that year, he joined the Austin Gamblers and became part of the 2024 PBR Teams Championship squad. Though he was not called upon during Austin’s postseason run, he was part of the roster that went 9-for-10 on Championship Sunday to capture the title. Miller continued finding success in Canada afterward, including a perfect 4-for-4 showing at the 2024 PBR Canada National Finals and a 2-for-2 victory in Medicine Hat in 2025.

The punishment has never seemed to change much about how Miller approaches the sport. During the 2026 Unleash The Beast season, he broke his jaw and still returned to competition with his mouth wired shut 2 weeks later — another chapter for a rider already known for staying attached long after most people would have been separated from the bull. Miller finished the season No. 25 in the world, covering 16 of 48 bulls and earning more than $51,000.

His toughness also comes with a very specific way of looking at life. Miller will argue for hours that good luck and bad luck are all a matter of mindset. Whether things are going right or wrong, he believes perspective has plenty to do with what happens next — a fitting philosophy for somebody whose job requires getting back on after being thrown off.

Away from the arena, Miller keeps things fairly simple. His coffee order is a flat white with an extra shot, and when he is driving down the road between events, a protein bar or banana from the gas station will do the job. He trains with functional and CrossFit-style workouts three to four times a week, enjoys fishing and skiing or snowboarding and follows UFC and professional bull riding. If bull riding had not become his full-time profession, he says he could have seen himself becoming an embryologist.

His playlist can move from rap and hip-hop to rock, gospel and country, with Australian groups Hilltop Hoods and Bliss n Eso among his favorites. Rio Bravo gets his vote on movie night, Hawaiian Bros is a favorite stop for food and, despite all the years spent building a life in North America, one thing can still make the Australian plenty homesick: fresh fruit from home.

But “Chips” is still easiest to understand once the gate opens. Whether he is upright, sideways or nearly upside down, Miller has built his reputation around one simple idea: keep holding on.
